ABOUT ME

As a bilingual Latina journalist with a degree in Mass Communications and Journalism from California State University, Fresno, I bring a multifaceted background in reporting, digital marketing and public relations. My experience spans several newsrooms, including The Business Journal, The Sanger Scene, and The Collegian, where I served as sports editor. I’ve built a strong foundation in writing, editing, photography and multimedia production, with proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and more.

At the Cronkite Agency at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, I’ve expanded my skill set into strategic communications. Working with real clients, I’ve developed and executed digital marketing and PR campaigns, gaining hands-on experience in brand storytelling, social media strategy, and media outreach. This work has strengthened my ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences and create content that resonates across platforms.

My passion lies in telling stories that highlight women and Latinos in the sports world. Whether interviewing athletes and coaches, producing video highlights, or capturing moments through photography, I aim to uncover the human experiences that are too often overlooked. My storytelling approach centers on amplifying voices and experiences that reflect the true diversity of the sports world.

Currently, I’m completing my master’s degree in sports journalism at Arizona State University, refining my ability to report across various formats — written, visual and audio. I'm also developing a podcast called Chika Check In, a space for informal conversations with experts on trending topics, launching soon on Spotify.

With a commitment to inclusive storytelling and a growing expertise in both journalism and strategic communication, I am eager to contribute to a professional sports, news organization, or agency, ensuring the stories I tell reflect the vibrant and diverse communities they serve.
