ABOUT ME

As a bilingual Latina creative with a degree in Mass Communications and Journalism from California State University, Fresno, I’ve built my career around one passion: telling stories that connect people. My background is multifaceted, blending reporting, digital marketing, social media strategy, and public relations, giving me the tools to craft narratives that resonate across platforms and with diverse audiences.

I began my journey in journalism, working in newsrooms such as The Business Journal, The Sanger Scene, and The Collegian, where I served as sports editor. In these roles, I strengthened my skills in writing, editing, photography, and multimedia production, while also gaining fluency in creative tools like Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Premiere Pro. These experiences taught me not only how to report the news, but also how to package stories in engaging, visually compelling ways that keep audiences invested.

At Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, I expanded into strategic communications through the Cronkite Agency, where I worked directly with clients to design and execute PR and digital marketing campaigns. From developing brand storytelling strategies to managing social media content and media outreach, I learned how to tailor messages to specific audiences and drive measurable impact. These projects allowed me to see storytelling not just as information-sharing, but as a creative strategy to build connections, shape perceptions, and spark conversations.

What drives me most is amplifying underrepresented voices in sports, especially women and Latinos whose experiences are too often overlooked. Whether I’m producing video highlights, interviewing athletes, or building digital campaigns, my approach is always people-centered, with the goal of capturing authentic stories that reflect the richness and diversity of the sports world.

Alongside my master’s degree in sports journalism from Arizona State University, I’ve also launched a podcast, Chika Check In, where I host informal conversations with experts on trending topics. This project has given me the freedom to experiment with audio storytelling while creating a space that feels approachable and community-driven.

Today, I see myself as more than a journalist, I’m a creative storyteller who thrives at the intersection of media, marketing and culture. I bring curiosity, strategy and passion to every project I take on, whether that’s shaping social media campaigns, editing video for digital audiences, or creating written content that sparks engagement. My commitment is to deliver stories that don’t just inform but also inspire, ensuring the work I do reflects the vibrant and diverse communities it serves.
